Yejin Hong, cello

Biography

Born in South Korea, cellist Yejin Hong started to play the cello at the age of 10. She graduated from the Seoul Arts High School and is currently completing the second year of her Bachelor’s degree at the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Laurence Lesser.

As an avid chamber musician, she made her chamber music debut as the winner of the Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition in South Korea and subsequently was invited on a full-scholarship to attend the LG Chamber Music School. She has performed at such venues as Lincoln Center in New York and Jordan Hall in Boston and also as a Semi-finalist in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa in Japan. 

Other notable appearances include a performance with the Yewon Arts School in Berlin, Germany - invited by the Berlin Philharmonic - and a performance with the Sung Nam Symphony Orchestra in South Korea. In recent years, she has won several awards, including 2nd prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow, Russia and was recognized as a semi- finalist of the Johansen International Competition in Washington D.C.

She was principal cellist in the Seoul Arts High School Orchestra, and has performed various recitals sponsored by the Kumho Prodigy Foundation in South Korea.
