Ieseul Kim, flute
Biography
A native of South Korea, flutist Ieseul Kim studied at the prestigious Yewon Arts School in South Korea and subsequently graduated from the Sungshin Women’s University with highest honors. Immediately following further training at Yonsei University for her M.M. she moved to Los Angeles and completed her Graduate Certificate under the tutelage of Jim Walker at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.
In recent years she has won several awards including Second Prizes at the Universal Flute and the Eum Ak Chun Chu Competitions in South Korea as well as Second Prize at the University of Southern California Woodwind Concerto Competition. She was a member of the Seoul Arts Center Festival Orchestra under Daejin Kim and was regularly invited to perform with several orchestras around South Korea including the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra, and Gangnam Symphony Orchestra.
Since moving to Los Angeles in 2014, Ieseul Kim has performed under the baton of James Conlon as part of Los Angeles Opera’s “Figaro Unbound” concert series and is regularly invited to perform as Principal Flute with the American Youth Symphony and Young Musician’s Foundation Debut Orchestra. Previous festival engagements include the International Wind Band Ensemble in South Korea, Spoleto Festival in South Carolina, and the Galway Flute Festival in Switzerland. Currently, she serves as a principal member of the flute ensemble FLiends.
